iFi Audio has introduced the iDSD GR 2 MT, a special Master Tuned edition of its flagship portable DAC/headphone amplifier, developed in collaboration with Grammy and Brit Award-winning producer Steve Levine. Built on the same GR 2 platform, the MT version takes its sound in a more carefully voiced direction through component-level refinements and exclusive digital filtering.
At its heart remains the Burr-Brown PCM1795 DAC, supporting up to PCM 768kHz and DSD512, alongside a fully balanced analogue stage and up to 1,513mW RMS balanced output power. Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless, LDAC and aptX Adaptive is also supported, while the colour OLED touchscreen provides direct access to the GR 2 MT’s extensive settings.
The GR 2 MT also retains features such as K2HD processing, iFi’s hybrid power mode, upgraded iEMatch circuitry and Nexis app compatibility, giving it the flexibility to work as a portable headphone DAC/amp or as part of a wider desktop audio system.
GR 2 MT vs iDSD GR 2 – What's Different?
The standard iDSD GR 2 and GR 2 MT share the same PCM1795 DAC, amplifier architecture, output power, connectivity and core feature set. The difference is primarily in the tuning. For the MT edition, Steve Levine worked with iFi on two exclusive digital filters — one for PCM and one for DSD — alongside upgraded internal components. Precision audiophile-grade resistors are used to improve channel balance and stability, while Audio Note Keisei capacitors have been introduced into the amplifier stage to add greater warmth and richness through the midrange. The MT also gains an illuminated logo as a visual distinction from the standard model.
