Meet Ocean.
Ocean is the company’s new flagship universal IEM, built around a completely new six-driver, four-way architecture and a sound that 64 Audio describes as dynamically neutral.
Rather than simply replacing Fourté with an updated version of the same idea, Ocean feels like a fresh statement of intent.
A New Flagship Architecture
At the heart of Ocean is a six-driver, four-way system designed to combine low-frequency authority with a balanced and natural presentation through the midrange and treble.
Two custom dynamic drivers operate in an isobaric configuration, working together to deliver low-end depth, control and physicality without overwhelming the rest of the frequency range.
The midrange has been tuned to remain rich and present, while the upper mids aim for balance and clarity.
At the top end, 64 Audio’s tia™ high-frequency driver and waveguide handle the treble, with the goal of producing an open, extended and natural presentation.
The overall approach is less about exaggerating individual frequencies and more about creating a sense of scale, realism and musical balance.
Dynamically Neutral
“Neutral” can sometimes imply something clinical or restrained, but Ocean’s tuning philosophy is intended to be something different.
64 Audio describes the sound as dynamically neutral: tonally balanced, but still capable of delivering impact, contrast and energy when the music demands it.
That philosophy fits the role Ocean is intended to play. This is not simply a technical reference monitor, nor is it designed around one exaggerated sonic characteristic. Instead, the aim is a flagship presentation that feels convincing across a wide range of music.
Passive Acoustic Control
One of Ocean’s most interesting additions is 64 Audio’s new Passive Acoustic Control, or PAC, system.
PAC gives the listener greater control over the acoustic behaviour of the IEM, with up to 32 possible configurations.
That makes Ocean considerably more adaptable than a conventional fixed-tuning earphone.
Rather than choosing a flagship based around one unchangeable presentation, the PAC system allows Ocean to be adjusted to better suit personal preference, different music or different listening environments.
It is an approach that feels particularly appropriate for a product at this level, where personal taste becomes increasingly important.
Fourté set the benchmark for 64 Audio’s universal range for almost a decade, so its successor was always going to carry high expectations.
With Ocean, 64 Audio has chosen to move forward rather than simply refine what came before. A new driver architecture, the flexibility of Passive Acoustic Control and a dynamically neutral tuning give Ocean a character and purpose of its own. It brings together many of the technologies and ideas 64 Audio has developed over the past decade, while introducing a new direction for its universal range.
